Chronic Third and Fourth Degree Perineal Tear Following Obstetric Trauma- A Case Series

This is a study conducted on 6 cases of chronic perineal tear repaired at vydehi institute of medical sciences and research centre. The cases were analyzed with respect to risk factors, method of surgery and outcome after surgery.

Results: Out of 6 cases studied 2 had incontinence for both watery stools and solid stools. Out of 6 cases studied 4 were incontinent only for watery stools and all were incontinent for flatus. Immediately following surgery all were continent for solid stools and 2 were incontinent for watery stools and flatus. At the end of 6 months all the patients were continent for solid and watery stools and only one patient was incontinent for flatus.
