Genetic Behavior of Quality Related Traits in Brassica rapa L

Severe shortage of domestic edible oil production is present in Pakistan and large quantum of foreign exchange is spent on oil import. Therefore domestic oil production need to be increased by improving seed yield and oil quality. Brassica rapa is a good oil source. During present investigation, genetic expression was estimated for quality traits using four lines (UAF-11, Toria, BSA and TP-124-1) and their hybrids in diallel fashion. Heterosis was computed for these characters. A large variability was observed for heterosis and hetrobeltiosis for all the traits. UAF-11 × Toria and Toria × UAF-11 for oil percentage, Toria × TP-124-1 and TP-124-1 × Toria for Glucosinolate, UAF-11 × TP-124-1, TP- 124-1 × UAF-11, BSA × Toria, Toria × BSA and TP-124-1 × Toria for for protein percentage, UAF -11 × TP-124-1, TP-124-1 × UAF-11 and BSA × TP-124-1 for erucic acid, UAF-11 × TP-124-1, TP- 124-1 × UAF-11 and BSA × TP-124-1 for lenolenic acid and UAF-11 × BSA, BSA × Toria, Toria × UAF-11 and Toria × BSA for oleic acid and TP-124-1 × UAF-11 and UAF-11 × TP-124-1 are observed as best hybrids.
