Moisture Sorption Behaviour of Wood-Based Cellulosics and its Contribution to the Comfort Properties of Multi- Layered Bedding Items

Abu-Rous M,  Bisjak C and Innerlohinger J

Applying hotplate tests and gravimetric measurements of vapour uptake under high humidity, basic bedding items containing different fibre materials in filling, shell fabrics and mattress ticking were compared regarding ther- mo-physiological comfort. The effect of adding moisture absorbing fibre materials such as lyocell into layers beneath the surface, which are not supposed to have direct skin contact, was investigated in typical commercial bedding items such as filled duvet comforters and double jersey mattress tickings. The results show the positive effects achieved by adding vapour absorbing materials under the surface and thus proving the contribution thereof to sleep comfort.
