Arsenic, a group A carcinogen is most often found in oxidized states arsenite [As(III)] and arsenate [As(V)]. Irrigation of soils with arsenic contaminated water significantly raises the arsenic levels in the soil, which severely affects growth and development of plants, and causes toxicity resulting in physiological and biochemical disorders. In the present study, a pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of arsenic (a toxic heavy metal) on growth of spinach(Spinacea oleracea).
