Diagnostic Enzyme Aided Assessment of Cytotoxicity Induced by an Acute Dose of Clenbuterol in Mice Tissues

All the drugs when administered orally have to pass though liver before reaching the target organ due to portal system. Clenbuterol is a β-adrenergic drug which is well-known for its muscle anabolic effects. Present study was therefore planned to examine the effects of acute dose of clenbuterol on mice liver, heart (cardiac muscles) and gastrocnemius (skeletal muscle). This was achieved by measuring the levels of two important marker enzymes used in diagnosis of various pathological conditions i.e. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and creatine kinase (CK). The biochemical assays were further supported by a fluorescent assay to measure cell necrosis.
