Ocean Acidification and Its Consequences

Frank Arnold William

When seawater absorbs carbon dioxide, some chemical reactions occur in seawater that reduces the pH and concentration of carbonate ions. These ions are used by organisms to make shells and reef systems These chemical reactions leads to “ocean acidification". Continuous ocean acidification causes many parts of the ocean to become undersaturated, which may be affect the ability of some organisms to produce and maintain their shells.
