Postoperative Intensive Care of Severe Boerhaave Syndrome: A Case Study

Boerhaave syndrome occurrence is rare in resuscitation. Its severe form leads directly to a life-threatening situation. We are reporting the case of an 85-year-old man admitted to ICU with severe Boerhaave syndrome and septic shock. The initial empirical broad-spectrum antibiotics therapy was effective on bacteria species. Empirical antifungal therapy required readjustment using caspofungin according to intraoperative fluid cultures. Indeed Candida glabrata was resistant to Fluconazole. Patient outcome was favourable; he discharged to continuous care unit on the 10th postoperative day.
