Associations of Circulating Leptin Concentrations with Metabolic and Inflammatory Risk Markers in Extremely Obese Subjects

Background: Reliable and robust markers of obesity and cardiovascular morbidity are needed for accurate risk estimation, intervention and follow-up. This is even more paramount in extremely obese patients, who are most likely to suffer from health hazards. Metabolic risks may not increase in direct proportion to degree of obesity. The study aim was to examine associations between leptin concentrations and metabolic and inflammatory cardiovascular risk markers in the extremely obese.
